Assail Thread Trust Local Merchants Affected
Formal complaint filed with the Department of Justice alleges that the American Thread Company is a monopoly in restraint of trade and should be dissolved through federal action. Local dealers report wholesale thread price rises from 55 to 62 cents per dozen spools, lifting retail prices by 5 to 6 cents per spool. The cited suppliers include J. P. Coats Company, Willimantic Linen Company, and Clark Company. The DOJ has not acted yet but will likely investigate the anti trust claim.
