Romance of a brief union ends with custody bid
Miss Marie F Godman, aged 2, daughter of Mrs Abner C P Shoemaker of Georgia Avenue Brightwood, learned yesterday of her marriage and divorce in Europe last summer. The Shoemakers say Miss Godman wed William F Gardner in Germany July 1910 and divorced soon after. Gardner remains in Germany. Shoemaker and his wife seek to legalize their adoption of their infant Louis Grover Gardner, born May 6, after Mrs Gardner returned from Europe. The petition notes Mrs Shoemaker has over $100000 and can care for the child. Justice Gould signed the order in Equity Court No 2.

Washington commissioners forwarded a letter to Senator Gallinger opposing Senate bills to rename Maine Avenue and relocate it.
