Export Funds Needed to Aid Europe Credit

The Federal Reserve Board in its June Federal Reserve Bulletin calls for private funding to extend credit to Europe. It estimates over 5.6 billion dollars of new obligations and a 1 billion export credit via the War Finance Corporation may be needed, with a warning that continued government direction of private industry should end as soon as possible. The report notes Europe will owe the U.S. at least 3 billion in this year’s balance of trade and that returns on foreign securities could approach 600 million annually.
