Bus Four vaudeville actor crushed in wreck
Van Duzer manager of the Bus Four was killed when a sleeper car overturned into a swamp. He had dived toward an open window after the train toppled on its side, his head crushed and buried in mud. He lived at 28 West 1384 Street with his wife and two children awaiting him with a meal when the telegram arrived.

The liner Westernland from Liverpool and Queenstown to Philadelphia grounded near the entrance to Delaware Bay. With no pilot aboard, engines reversed but could not back off.
