Ground broken to level subbasement of Municipal building

After months of digging and blasting the old power plant site on D Street NW, contractor A B Stannard will complete the subbasement floor by week’s end. Foundations are finished, the structure nears the main erection, and the project should wrap by November 1 1907 at a cost just under 190000. Delays due to court location and budget decisions extended the timeline, avoiding weather damage and extra costs. The project faced a sad note with the death of MP Stannard’s general manager George Woollard at George Washington University Hospital on June 3.
