Treasury to pay higher interest on new certificates
Two new Treasury certificates will bear interest at 6 percent and 6 percent, dated June 13, 1920, with maturities in January 1921 and June 1921. Government aims to raise about 400 thousand dollars, offsetting maturing coupons and supporting current expenses. Secretary Houston plans continued debt reduction and notes favorable fiscal trends for the next year. Banks expect higher market rates, likely nudging up commercial and industrial borrowing costs.
