Barry Statue Movement Receives Wide Backing Names Honored
The National Commodore John Barry Statue Association met at 1227 Twentieth Street with D F Finucane presiding. A vote of thanks was given to those prominent in the campaign and to secretary M F O Donoghue for driving the bill forward. The idea originated with Arch bishop Ireland in New York and gained support from the Emmet Club and United Irish Societies. A legislative path in Congress progressed through Knox and Speaker Cannon, with support from the Frank P Burke and D F Finucane group and Mr. Driscoll in the House. The movement echoes the success seen in the Paul Jones effort and united American patriotic societies.
