Georgia Reduces Passenger Rates in State Ruling
The Georgia railroad commission announced a major cut in passenger rates. Commissioners Hill and Stevens supported the reduction, while Brown issued a minority report. The new rates set 2 cents per mile for Atlanta and West Point and Western and Atlantic lines. 2 1/4 cents for Atlantic Coast Line and Georgia railroads. 1 1/2 cents for Central of Georgia, Southern, Seaboard Air Line, Georgia Southern and Florida, and Alabama Great Southern lines. Other roads largely maintain the 3-cent rate, with few exceptions. Railroads had opposed the previous higher rates amid a dispute over routes between two competitive points.
