Roberts Deficit Cited as Government Not in Immediate Strain
Ellis H. Roberts, Treasurer of the United States, told the Iowa Bankers Association that the revenue deficit is not due to falling income. He noted eleven months of the fiscal year show a $36,698,624 overspending with rising expenditures. He argued the nation can operate two to three years with no stringency, given cash reserves and limited borrowing options, while citing Navy and Panama Canal costs as major drivers.
