In Denver on June 4 a planeside report from Pueblo describes a city submerged by floodwaters from the Arkansas River. Debris piles choke streets while the railroad depot lies in water as looting and panic abate and rescue work begins.
The body of Barbara Thoradaia, 24, a country school teacher, was found near Valley Junction by Boy Scouts aiding the search. Police say she was assaulted and murdered, last seen Thursday afternoon on her way from school to the nearby rear line two miles away. About 800 people scoured the area through the night and dawn.
Reports claim four suspects were arrested fueling a large gathering at the Valley Junction police station. Police denied the rumors, leaving the crowd uncertain as to the incident and the status of those involved.
The Southwestern division of the American Red Cross was authorized to draw up to 60000 from the national relief fund until Monday to aid Colorado flood sufferers. National headquarters said the full scope would be known by Monday and extra funds would follow if needed.
