Nationals Get St Louis Now

Special to The Washington Post. St Louis May 31. Clark Griffiths Nationals who will open their Western trip with two four game series with the Browns are expected to be a somewhat frayed and fatigued organization when they step on the field here tomorrow afternoon. Two nights in a row a sleep was forced on the Washingtonians by the break in the schedule and they will not arrive here until Saturday morning. They will ride here until Tuesday evening when they leave for Chicago. Wallace's team is not such a chirpy outfit but it will have some advantage at the start as it has been home for several days and won only two of six with Detroit in four days. Baumgardner blanked the Tigers yesterday and Powell held them to a single run today. The Browns pitchers are showing better form now. It is expected St Louis will use Hamilton in the opening game or Elmer Brown a right hander. The home team expect to get either Hughes or Groom with Groom the more probable. Groom, from Belleville Illinois near this city, has the usual homework problem here and seems unable to win in St Louis. His father has been coming over for several seasons and has yet to see Bob win. St Louis is not drawing crowds much but Griffith has a chance to make money with weekend games and new faces to show the fans. Early in the year St Louis hoped their team would beat the Nationals. now they don’t and want to see how Washington has improved so much in one year.
