Tax Receipts Heavily Poured In On Last Day of Tax Window
The District’s last day for paying real estate and personal property taxes without penalty saw a rush at the District Building. Taxpayer crowds formed the corridor, with $1.25 million at least collected by E. G. Davis by 4 pm. Many payments arrived by mail, and clerks worked late to tally accounts. Police guarded the safe, and Maj. Sylvester praised two officers for bravery at a prior fire, seeking proper merit actions.
