McAdoo cites plot to defeat currency bill over 2% bonds

Secretary McAdoo charged that New York banks and other financiers launched a coordinated campaign to depress government 2 per cent bonds to defeat the currency bill. He warned the public that the banks hold most of the issue and that the drop in market price affects notes secured by the bonds, while noting the Treasury’s ample preparedness and the bonds’ favorable terms despite the fall.

Train Kills Pair in Auto Crash Near Rochester

J H Sankpeal vice president of a lumber company and Miss Martha Wartlebin were killed when his car was struck by the Wolverine express at a Penfield crossing near Rochester New York. Mrs Sankpeal identified the bodies and said a quarrel with her husband the night before prompted his departure.

Baltimore Storm Wrecks City With Heavy Damage

A violent July 2 storm battered Baltimore from the northeast, causing at least $100,000 in property damage. Eighteen people were injured, eight firemen hurt, and two may die. Tragic drowning of two girls in Watt Mining reservoir

In Barnesville Ohio on July 28 Estelle Van Fosson 12 and Thelma Roach 13 drowned while bathing in the Watt Mining Car Company reservoir. Their rope tethered to a tree broke as divers attempted rescue. The girls vanished and two other children witnessed the incident. Andrew Roach, told at a baseball game, fell from the grandstand and broke his back with little hope of recovery.

Family Shot to Death near Rumsey Alberta

George Robinson, his wife, and two children were found shot to death in their Rumsey area farm house. The bodies lay in separate rooms, a shotgun lay across the father, three empty shells nearby, and the house showed signs of a fierce struggle.
