Atlanta July 27. Richard Purvis Ernest O Heim Guy King and W N Smith officers and former officers of the Southern Loan and Trust Company were arrested on charges of fraudulent use of the mails and using the mails to promote a lottery. The operation allegedly involved between 500000 and 3000000 dollars across the southern states. The scheme centered on loan investment contracts where borrowers paid upfront and monthly fees until their number reached the top, creating a lottery-like system. Federal investigators say high numbered holders faced little chance of borrowing.

Dr. Robert W. White of Chincoteague Va was remanded to jail without bail by Coroner Ford awaiting grand jury action over the death of 86 year old Mrs Minnie Trader of Olney Va who died July 4 at Jefferson Hospital. The jury ruled the death resulted from blood poisoning after an un professional operation alleged to be performed by the physician who said he was promised 25 a day by the woman and that she threatened self harm if he did not comply.
