Prince of Wales faces no legal barrier to marrying an American

Ex-attache argues there is no constitutional or legal obstacle to a marriage between the Prince of Wales and an American woman who is Roman Catholic would block succession but a Protestant or other faith would not. Royal marriage laws require sovereign sanction, privy council approval, and imperial parliament consent. without these, unions are void. The piece notes historical precedents with commoners and non royals, and contrasts with continental morganatic marriages.
