Local men indicted in Tampa ring linked to Pullman porters
A U S Treasury special intelligence unit shifted prosecutions from Washington to Tampa Florida. A Tampa grand jury returned indictments naming 34 defendants, many Washingtonians, with conspiracy charges. Warrants for arrest of four local police and three deputy marshals are expected. Indictments here were quashed earlier as the government pursued Tampa prosecutions. The move signals coordination between federal authorities and questions over inter-jurisdictional strategy.
