Ball Rent Act Ends in District Courts After Appeals Ruling
The Court of Appeals notified the District Supreme Court that the Ball rent law is unconstitutional and void, effectively ending future landlord tenant disputes in the District of Columbia. Louis Hirsh sought possession of premises at 919 F Street NW from Julius Block, with the appellate mandate directing proceedings within the District Supreme Court to align with the opinion. Attorney Julius I Peyser plans to seek a possession judgment during the summer recess to expedite the appeal, aiming for a writ of error to the U S Supreme Court. Projections place a possible Supreme Court ruling before October 1, 1921, potentially altering winter protections for tenants. Rent Commissioner A Leftwich Sinclair stated proceedings will continue unaffected.
