Two Horses Drown in Adkin River Crossing Near Salisbury

This afternoon two horses owned and driven by J W Click of Jerusalem Davie County drowned while crossing the Adkin River eight miles from Salisbury. Click narrowly escaped drowning after the carriage upset. he was thrown into the water but freed himself and reached shore as the horses disappeared.

Postal laws violated ten arrested at Stephens City Va

Investigation led to the finming of ten people at Stephens City Virginia on July 18 by Post-office Inspector Kelley. Each was fined ten dollars for violations of postal laws. The charges state packages marked tobacco etc were sold to contain first class mail matter. Nearly two hundred parcels were examined by Inspector Hes.

Man with skull hole survives day after accident and murder verdict

July 18 reports from Suffolk and Isle of Wight County describe John Salmon, aged forty seven, surviving after a skull wound that could hold a goose eye, with recovery possible. Snavely Denies Perjury In Cumberland Case

Hagerstown July 18 The former juror Hezekiah Snavely arrived from Oregon facing perjury charges connected to the manslaughter case of Dr J H Tompkins and F W Hermann. He allegedly offered a Cumberland witness a bribe during voir dire but denies seeing the witness. The jury disagreed, Snavely later left the area and worked in Polo IH as a liveryman. jailed, he plans to post bond.

Soldier Home death by hanging at convalescent company

Newport News July 18 Aaron T Evans a member of the Convalescent Company at the Soldiers' Home hanged himself early this morning. He tied a rope to a water pipe about eight feet from the floor and placed the other end around his neck. Death was due to strangulation. He had been drinking.
