Three Die In Train Wreck Near Marshallville

In Macon Georgia July 16 officials of Central of Georgia Railroad suspect foul play in a derailment near Marshallville that killed three aboard a freight engine named Charles Green of Macon engineer Sam Nedd Powersville Ga and Jim Redding Macon Ga fireman and brakeman. The engine with two cars derailed suddenly and toppled to the track side as investigators led by Supt H D Pollard rush to the scene to determine causes. The wreck was a special peach train.

July 16 reports from Pittsburgh say three young men drowned when their skin boat capsized in the Monongahela River near Lock No. 1. The swells from a towboat caused the accident. the victims’ names are not yet known.

Yonkers Man Escapes Execution On Death Row Stay

John Johnson who killed his wife in Yonkers on May 15 1906 after she refused to live with him was granted a stay of execution pending U S Supreme Court action. Attorney Meyer Levy sought habeas corpus and certiorari but was denied. Johnson’s counsel plans further appeals. The delay follows two near escapes from the electric chair and a last minute reprieve.

In Trenton on July 16 Judge Cross of the United States court sentenced Italian counterfeiter Imgi Zambino to six years in State prison. Zambino was one of several counterfeiters operating around New York and Hoboken. Spurious money was produced in Italy and brought into the area by Zambino and disposed of.
