Brazilian bonds break to further new lows amid revolution fears
The Washington Post reports Brazilian government bonds dropped sharply led by the Taub and Leo Paulo issues sliding below Saturday’s prices. Cables from Buenos Aires said Santoa’s holiday extended to July 19 and censorship by the government fueled internal political strife. Bo livian bonds eased slightly while other foreign issues remained steady. Liberty bonds moved up modestly as industrial and railroad bonds showed mixed gains and losses.

Wall Street Gossips on 1934 Auto Sales and Rail Talks
In 1934 General Motors first half sales totaled 79,680 cars, down from 408,986 a year earlier, while rail stocks like Gulf Mobile and Northern hit new yearly highs. Rumors surfaced of a contest for control of Gulf Mobile and Northern by Central of Georgia and Louisville & Nashville, given Gulf’s pivotal role as a Panama Canal gateway. Schulter retail stores ratified a 200,000 share increase to 1,600,000 shares. Pittsburgh & Lake Erie railroad income nearly tripled with $13,170,106, up $8,838,095 from the prior year, as markets showed strength in certain rails and utilities amid broad stock moves.
