District poised to back municipally run Giesboro line
District commissioners report to the Senate favor a substitute bill for a Giesboro railway, proposing incorporation with the line from Anacostia to Giesboro Point, to become district property at start of operation. After ten years Anacostia and Potomac River Railroad would pay a franchise tax based on construction costs, over 40 000, with options for Washington Railway and Electric Company extension or transfer to the new company. The report warns against new street railway corporations and notes potential future sale to the Washington Railway and Electric Company, preserving public interest.
