Moonshine Raid Ends in Triple Death in Buchanan County
Desperate clash between United States revenue officers and moonshiners in Buchanan County leaves three moonshiners dead and three mortally wounded. Deputy Collector G M Tucker of Richmond is wounded, and two other raiders retreat through the moonlit mountains near Grundy as the fight erupts over alleged stills run by Columbus Collins Andy Anderson and Henry Adams. The isolated terrain and lack of railroad access mark the encounter as one of the area’s most violent of its kind.
