Kentucky Rep Johnson Pushes Bill To Buy Property For Union Station Awards

Representative Ben Johnson of Kentucky prepared a House bill to create a commission that would buy property involved in the Union Station awards at fair market value, not exceeding the awarded amount. The district committee approved the measure, aiming to sidestep delays by isolating railroad and Real Estate and Improvement Company holdings from the rest. The plan would not include railroad holdings, and would permit purchasing the Real Estate and Improvement Company property at cost plus 6 percent, possibly saving about $600,000 from the $1,800,000 award. The House debated the bill amid a late-session stir, with Logue of Pennsylvania guiding it in the House for public buildings and grounds.
