Oklahoma contest feeds factional rift over national committeeman
Subcommittee examined the George W Priestley versus James A Harris case with Judge C W Raymond arguing irregularity due to Roosevelt delegates not staying for all Chicago sessions. No action taken. A nationwide petition drive to urge President Taft to withdraw as Republican nominee is being arranged by officeholders and factional leaders to heal party rifts ahead of August 5 Roosevelt convention. The plan seeks signatures from a broad cross section, including regular and independent voters, with organizers and supervisors in place.
