The Powhatan Hotel now run by Lewis Hotel Company faces a possible forced sale. Receivers recently recommended action, with Justice Barnard to decide after month’s vacation. An auditor was named to appraise assets and liabilities. The plan sought a $250,000 loan secured by the real estate at eighteenth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, to pay creditors 1 cent on the dollar cash, with the rest secured by a second trust. Woman Drives 580 Miles In Horse Drawn Buggy To Washington

Mrs John E Harris aged 20 years alone with two children completed a 580 mile journey from a Danville Wisconsin summer home to Washington in a horse drawn buggy. They left June 9 and spent 29 days on the road with 18 days of actual travel averaging about 3 1/2 miles daily. The voyage followed maps from the American Automobile Association and included passes through Greenfield Springfield Hartford and New York City. The party reached Washington yesterday about 10 am. The trip was undertaken after a fire destroyed their house in April and loss of heirlooms including a portrait once owned by George Washingtons sister. The horse aged about 20 was kept on rest breaks and careful foot care on paved roads. Mrs Harris plans another trip in Florida and hopes to reunite with Mr Harris later.
