Seeing Tour For Forty Three Cents On Steamship Route

A whimsical New York era piece describes a half hour ferry and streetcar journey from Staten Island to Elizabethport Newark and Hoboken. It notes landmarks including Castle William on Governors Island, the Statue of Liberty, Windsor and Princeton remnants, old streets, parks, factories, marshes, and the famed cheaper metropolitan sightseeing fare. It contrasts American progress with traditional sites and ends with a tangential remark on European attitudes toward risk and novelty.
