Drowning at Y M C A Camp Claims Two Teenagers

Two Wilmington youths die at a YMCA summer camp on the River below Town Point Maryland. Clayton Tatman 13 and Reed Giffing 14 both of Wilmington plunged overboard during a rescue attempt. Giffing’s body recovered. Tatman’s remains missing. Another Wilmington boy drowned earlier while swimming.

Howard Weldin aged 15 was attacked by cramps while at Brandywine Creek near Rockland Delaware. He sank and died as his father and brother could not assist. His body was recovered.

Auto hits fleeing bandits in Chicago holdup

Two of three alleged robbers ran in front of a car during a Western avenue and West Sixty third street holdup. George Paulson died from a fractured skull while his brother was less seriously injured. Eugene Whaten, the driver, could not stop in time. The Paulsons, both young, were taken to a hospital. the third man identified as George Pinkard was taken into custody.

A bullet fired today by a Black assailant struck George Wern on the forehead and wounded Mrs Edward T Smith who was riding a streetcar. Wern, unharmed, continued celebrating the Fourth as the shooter escaped.

Train Robbery Near Batesville Stuns Passengers

Bandits raided the L&N/HWlfness Central passenger train No 1 near Batesville Mississippi and fled with loot estimated from 300 to 3500 dollars as bloodhounds hunted the pair. Passengers were roused by revolver shots and a dynamite bundle on the express car while conductors urged all to hide valuables.

Auto crash kills child as parade crowd scatters in Pittsburgh

In West Pittsburgh on July 4 a speeding car plowed into a crowd of schoolchildren, killing four year old John Greenawalt and injuring ten others aged 3 to 11. Driver Abe Yuengling was arrested after claiming brakes failed while descending a steep grade near Dr. M A Stoneman's home, which became a temporary hospital.

Motorcyclist Hurt In Night Crash Near Conduit Road

Bernard Sherwood, 19, riding from Great Falls, was found by Arthur Ewald beside a wrecked motorcycle on Conduit road about 112 miles beyond Cabin John Bridge. He had a fractured rib and internal injuries. Ewald rushed him to Georgetown University Hospital. The horse and buggy driver fled after the collision. Sherwood, a clerk living at 518 Twenty-fifth Street NW, was seriously hurt.
