Navy to test Delaware gunnery off Cape Cod Bay
The Delaware arrives home around July 15 after coronation ceremonies. Tests begin near July 9 in Cape Cod Bay to explore higher gun ranges and hit rates for 14 inch and 12 inch guns, with later trials planned in Chesapeake Bay against old San Marcos targets. Night practice with secondary batteries and torpedo craft resistance will occur, followed by aerial-target simulations in August. An engineering competition will name the winner after examining records from all battle ship class vessels.
