Station route chosen for city rail line drawing wide support
After a morning hearing the Commissioners approved locating the Washington Alexandria and Mount Vernon Railroad station on D Street near Twelfth while routing trains along Thirteen-and-a-half Street to D, east to Twelfth, and south to C then west to Fourteenth. The plan costs about 3000 dollars, facing opposition to an alternative on YC street costing 5000 to 6000 dollars. Delegations from Alexandria and Washington pressed for the Avenue facing station to aid commuters, especially women, with several officials and legislators present.
