The 1915 United States Steel wage increase spurred discussion in New York finance circles. It is seen as hinting at resumed 2% dividends, a view once voiced by Norman B. Ream and echoed by George W Perkins. Charles M Schwab predicted 200 million in annual earnings, with 40 million tons of pig iron produced in 1916.

Radium Price Soars Past Nine Million Per Pound

A United States Geological Survey report notes that radium could fetch over 9 million dollars a pound if available in bulk. In late 1915 only 11-10 gram units sold at 120 thousand dollars per gram, with total U.S. production around 6 grams. War depressed European demand, limiting markets for radium and uranium ores. U.S. deposits remain largest but output remains tiny compared with potential.
