Protests Seek Removal of All Grade Crossings Before Rail Payment
East Washington Citizens' Association protests the $1,500,000 payment to the Philadelphia Baltimore and Washington Railroad Company by the United States government for the passenger station at Sixth and B Streets NW until all grade crossings are eliminated. Commissioners forward the matter to the corporation counsel for consideration, arguing federal acts require removal after authorization and the union station act links payment to crossing abolition. The group contends the railroad will lose incentive to remove crossings once paid.
