Rescue on High Seas Off Virginia Coast Involves Helmsman Heroic Lighthouse Keeper
Captain P Harper and eight seamen of the American schooner Helen G Moseley braved a gale and waterlogged deck to abandon ship, then were rescued by the German steamer Bierauwa near Cape Monry. The Moseley, built in Boston and owned by J Moseley of Osten, Norfolk, was loaded with pine for Boston when the storm struck. The same gale prompted the keeper at Thunble Lighthouse to rescue a master, his crew, and a child from a sinking barge near the Chesapeake. The Burker Palmer tug attempted relief below Thunble, while Merritt Chapman Wrecks Co prepared to haul the barge away.

Caramels Put In Whisky Cleared by Supreme Court
The United States Supreme Court ruled that placing caramels in whisky does not render the spirits forfeitable under the tax law. In United States v.
