Burial in Arlington Gen Wheeler to Lie in State at St Johns

The body of Gen Joseph Wheeler will reach Washington at midnight and be taken to St John s Episcopal Church where it will lie in state with a guard of honor from 10 am to 2 pm Monday before the funeral cortege proceeds to Arlington. The burial site overlooks the city near the Lee mansion. Major W D Beach announced details. the President plans to attend the church service but not the cortege. Rev Dr Stires will conduct the burial service and read at the grave. A military escort from Washington Barracks Fort Myer and artillery units will accompany the procession. Honorary pallbearers include Gen Howard and other Confederate and U S officers. representatives from the Spanish War Veterans and various political figures will attend. The Confederate Veterans Association and ex Confederates will assemble at 1:30 pm in front of the church.
