A Washington doctor’s son is involved in a tragedy near the Princeton Club in a quiet New York quarter. Local authorities are investigating the incident as police and ambulance responders reported a fatal outcome. The community remains shaken as details emerge.
New York January 23 David Graham Phillips editor novelist was shot six times near the Princeton Club by Fitzhugh Coyle Goldsborough Harvard man and son of Dr E K Goldsborough Washington. Goldsborough then killed himself. Phillips 43 in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital. Goldsborough left a note and shots targeted Phillips after a dispute over a character in White Magic.
A wounded man, David Graham Phillips, reports threatening letters and calls from an anonymous source while living at the National Arts Club and Princeton Club. A socialist former roommate, Goldsborough, is implicated through a claimed grudge and mention of a harmed magazine article.

In Houston Mississippi on January 23 Reuben Davis aged 66 shot and killed his brother John Davis aged 7 on a street. Mrs. Elva M. Davis describes a tense Washington interview with Maj. Gen. Elliott about transport to Guam. She claims Elliott insulted her and called her son immoral and worthless. Defense and prosecution conclude testimony as courts martial adjourns awaiting sealed verdict to the Secretary of the Navy.
J Pierpont Morgan rode a Pennsylvania Railroad special from Washington to New York in 3 hours 56 minutes, averaging over a mile a minute over 224.7 miles. The train consisted of a locomotive, tender, one steel coach, and a private car, with a 15 minute stop for engine change at West Philadelphia. The trip appears to have been arranged in a hurry and the purpose was not disclosed.
Mrs Adell Winifred Wade 20, of 265 street northeast, was arrested at 907 K street southeast by Police man E S Woods on forgery charges. Disguised to resemble an older woman with a gray wig she sought boys clothing for her 12 year old daughter Helene, who accompanied her. Wade denies the charges and blames a trusted woman friend in a money lending operation, listing alleged patrons and sums.
Marguerit Helen Wilden, now Mrs George Henderson, says she wed to ease responsibilities from her father C I Wilson's $4,000,000 fortune and holdings including Riverside Drive house, a steam yacht, and a car. She is named president of the Interurban Traction Co. and will host a dinner at the La Salle Hotel for directors and wives before an auto tour abroad.

If five Republicans defect, a deadlock could persist to session end. Democratic lawmakers nominate Willard Saulsbury of Wilmington. Du Pont expects reelection.
A German engineer named Robert Buchler, arrived from New York, entered the Bank of England with a letter claiming he is Queen Victoria’s eldest son and that money is due him. A detective followed, lured him toward a police station, and Buchler drew a loaded firearm before being overpowered. officers recovered casages from his pockets. He is believed insane.
