Romanticist Stokowski Conducts Wagner for Philadelphia Orchestra
The Philadelphia Orchestra offered an all Wagner program at the New National Theater with soprano Tlor ence Hinkle. Stokowski proved a romanticist, shaping dramatic phrasing and youthful vitality, though Elsa's Dream lacked Wagnerian dramatic weight. Hinkle showed purity but limited resonance, while the ensemble featured superb crescendos and Wotan's Farewell.
