Criticises Gas Company by Utilities Commission Tests
The Washington Gaslight Company was notified that December tests show hydrogen sulfide in the gas thirteen days at the central station and five days each at the southeast and northwest stations. The commission calls this unsatisfactory service and notes candlepower 2 to 9 points below the old standard of 22. If low ratings persist, a new standard may be adopted. The gas is now on a heat unit basis for cooking and mantle lighting, and the commission urges more mantle lighting to improve light quality at lower cost.
