Cannon at War Department hailed as historic trophy

A detailed account traces the bronze 14 pounder cannon placed at the War Department entrance to its storied past. Captured by American forces in St Johns and possibly Yorktown, the trophy has complex ownership claims, with corrections made by Capt L Grant. Once misattributed to Larktown, it now sits at the northeast range of the bucking side, a memento of revolutionary skirmishes and earlier expeditions.

A fragment from a Washington Post page mentions free beauty coupons and a jumble of names, places, and phrases. The garbled OCR reads like an era ad infused with scattered references to Paris, Rome, and medals, creating a surreal snapshot of a newspaper page.
