Notable guests included American officials, diplomats, and Washington society’s leading families, with weddings and engagements marking the social calendar.

An American ambassador and Mrs Whitelaw hosted a diplomatic tea yesterday afternoon attended by officials and residents of the embassy circle. A large dance followed in the yard with Mrs Frank Spratt and staff in charge, as guests mingled with naval officers and aides. Dinner parties and buffet suppers preceded the event, with Miss Helen Taft among attendees and the guest list including several lieutenants, the chaplain Bayard, and Ensign Basted. The new federal taxi service number was announced as Main 9000.
