Loss of the Pengwern Off Cuxhaven In Ship Disaster
The British ship Pengwern capt Williams from Tal tal Chile October 6 for Falmouth grounded near Scharhorn ten miles NW of Cuxhaven. Twenty four crew drowned as heavy seas broke over the vessel and it disappeared with all aboard. Tug Volkan responded. crew on the tug offered to jump to safety but were refused. The ship, a three masted iron 1048 ton vessel built Greenock 198 and owned Liverpool by the Pengwern Shipping Company, was lost with cargo of saltpeter.

Two Shot by Burglars in Mamaroneck Home Invasion
