Sharp Rise in Stocks Oney Rates Again Lower
New York stock market analysis notes a cautious improvement after recent weaknesses. Banks and financial institutions face scrutiny as trust actions and bank consolidations reduce perceived risk. Grain and copper for futures rise amid pools and foreign shipments, while cotton remains heavy and Sterling dips. A $60 million city bond issue likely at 3 percent rate could spur further refinancing and debt movements.
Wall Street Gossips on Carnegie Trust After Market Rally
Special to The Washington Port New York Jan 9 The market's best spurt of the year followed the Carnegie Trust failure though rumors about the company persist. Two cotton exchange seats sold at 16500 and 14700 while Pacific Telephone and Telegraph notes totaling 5 million were sold to investors. AT&T subsidiary Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company shows renewed expansion with 34 million in securities since 1908 and more construction funding. The Carnegie Trust failure, along with Madison and Twelfth Ward banks, did not unsettle the money market as stocks rose and rates fell.
