Persia Warship Vessel Sinking Sparks Wilson Demand
The Volks Zeitung argues the British steamer Persia was armed and could have attacked the submarine, justifying its sinking. It predicts President Wilson will demand accountability from Britain for arming a passenger vessel and risking noncombatant lives. The dispatch doubts Reuters Washington reporting on American views.

Labor Will Gaste Die May Make the Bill Useless
London Jan. 5. If the Isbor untona Aeclars again at Premier Acquth's conscription bill they will obstruct its working after enactment. The Mineral Federation and the National Union of Railway Men are strong labor bodies in Britain. The Miners' Federation quarrels with other unions and will skip the joint labor board meeting. Labor leaders warn that a hostile majority could force MPs to oppose the bill, with possible Lords deadlock and no filibuster likely in Commons. John Redmond's speech leaves Nationalists undecided. John Hodge said the trade council meeting in London tomorrow will decide on conscription. He could not predict the result but warned success hinges on labor support.
