Special to The Washington Post from Chicago reports Dr J A Hemsteger a South Side physician died today from inhaling exhaust fumes after an explosion filled his private garage with gas. He briefly recovered at home, went downtown with his sons, then fell ill and died in his office chair at noon.
Cumberland correspondent reports Allegany county authorities have compiled enough facts to present to a coroner's jury in the Twigg and Grace Blosser cyanide case. State's Attorney Robb says no direct link to a third party exists though multiple witnesses, including Grace Blosser's family, doctors who examined the bodies, and police officials, will be questioned at the inquest.
Washington residents discuss a huge canal completion celebration in the capital with New Orleans and San Francisco expos in play. Chamber of Commerce leaders urge Congress to fund the event while a next meeting aims to form committees and cement plans for a 1913 timing.
A Californians delegation led by Senators Flint and Perkins met President Taft to press for better Pacific coast defenses. Naval plans discussed include submarines and torpedo boats, with an expected six of each class funded. Taft indicated no large war expenditure but ordered a careful study by Secretary Meyer.

In Granby Quebec on January 5 brothers Daniel and Louciere, leaders of St Joseph's College, died aiding students and teachers as a blaze destroyed the building. Daniel later died from injuries. Louciere perished inside. Thirty three students and 28 brothers were inside. all others escaped in near freezing night. The $75,000 building was ruined.
Mrs. George H. Weeks died at South Norwalk Connecticut today, the third death in as many weeks linked to the headache wafer. Coroner Hortonton investigates the case as medical authorities seek cause and safeguards.
In New York on January 5 a dramatic scene unfolded in the district attorney's office as Joseph G. Robin refused to acknowledge two Brooklyn couple as his parents. His sister Dr Louise Rabinovitch stood by his side while the couple, Herman Robinovitch and wife, pleaded through an interpreter. The encounter drew onlookers as the parents insisted, while Robin maintained he had never known them. A mental examination was ordered, with a possible commission to assess his sanity and reports of six additional grand jury indictments for alleged grand larceny.
