Clash Over Oil Lands Sees Injustice to Claimants
Senate public lands committee convened after a sensational meeting to push oil relief bill relief for holders of stakes in Naval Reserve No. 2 California. They argued relief has been blocked by Navy Department refusals to recognize just claims, warning of potential bankruptcy among claimants and planning a full Senate discussion. Senator Pittman cited failed compromise attempts and pressed for relief measures despite department opposition, noting the impact would affect only a small portion of Naval Reserve lands.
