Statehood Vote Expected In Senate Test On Bills
The Senate is expected to vote this afternoon on Statehood, with a test of strength for the House bill reported by Territories Committee chair Beveridge. A pure food bill remains opposed and unlikely to pass this session, while an omnibus claims bill and tariff conference talks loom. Senator Gallinger is ill, but the Merchant Vessel Commission report may be presented today to launch new shipping legislation.

Lessons Of The War Key To Ascendancy On Sea
Official Navy review of Far East operations argues battleship supremacy in naval warfare. It notes Japanese torpedo boat attacks largely failed against anchored Russian ships, while battleships enabled rapid landings and fleet control, counters claims that battleships are obsolete. It cites Port Arthur and Yalu events, and contrasts Russian and Japanese naval performance.
