Cumberland authorities pursue how cyanide was administered to Charles Twiggs and Grace Blosser after their deaths in the couple’s home. Police search drugstores for the poison’s source and examine photographic supply links while coroner's inquest looms and Robb pledges further developments within a week.

Capt Joseph S Eastman a founder of the Mother Church and longtime Christian Science healer dies at his Somerville home four weeks after Mrs Mary Baker Eddy, whose death he mourned deeply. He was among Mrs Eddy's original pupils and served as a church leader for 25 years. His widow notes his decline followed Mrs Eddy's death.
Thomas Melorvey died at a Jersey City hospital after being stabbed in the brain with an umbrella ferrule. George Kreigh, arrested for murder, says Melorvey threatened him and he raised his umbrella to defend his face, causing the fatal fall. Kreigh to be arraigned tomorrow.
President Taft’s New Year reception at the White House drew 5,425 guests in glittering attire.
