Deathblow to hazing action taken voluntarily

Special to The Washington Post Annapoli Md Feb 17 The class of midshipmen known as the second but which is in fact the first class since the graduation of the class of 1906 has voluntarily and unequivocally declared its determination to use its influence against hazing at the Naval Academy This action was taken at a fall meeting of the class and it is likely that the third class will take similar action End of Hazing This action is regarded here as more likely to be the end of hazing than any thing else which has occurred Class feeling is very strong in the Naval Academy and the midshipman who would go against the formal action of his class is not likely to have an easy life Admiral Sands has had several conferences with the members of this class and has impressed upon them his own high notions of the standard of duty which should guide them in the responsible positions they hold Akers Sands standard Not only have the members of the new Senior class accepted this but they have now resolved to use all their influence against the practice A meeting of the third class has also been called to consider the matter This is the class which ordinarily takes the

Governor offers reward for four lynchers in Gadsden case

Governor W D Jelka withholds mercy and posts 400 reward for the capture of the first four lynchers in the Bunk Richardson mob. The mob seized Richardson from Etowah County jail and hanged him for alleged complicity in the assault and murder of Mrs Mary Jane Smith near Gadsden. Two other accused participants have been executed and another sentenced to death, later commuted to life imprisonment.

Robbery Attack Near Tomas Leaves Two Dead

William Smith and seven Mexicans traveling to the Dolores mine were ambushed by four robbers near Tomas, Mexico. Two of Smiths group were killed and Smith was mortally wounded. the bandits only escaped with no money taken. Two Americans are in custody and a posse seeks the others.

Special Referendum Election Of Officers In District Mo 5 UMWA

After a fifteen day session the seventeenth annual convention delegates adjourned to meet again March 28. A special referendum election will be held, then officers will be installed after tellers report. President Dolan said he remains head until miners vote otherwise.
