Barefoot Dance by Lady Constance Draws Elite Crowd

Spectators paid high prices at a private studio benefit in New York to see Lady Constance Stewart Richardson perform in bare feet wearing only a gauzy drape. The event, arranged by Mr and Mrs Astor and other Americans, drew about 100 fashionable women and several men. Attendees included Mrs Robert Lavarrette, Mrs James Drexel Poole, and others, with tickets reportedly selling for up to ten dollars. The performance featured swinging and diving in scant attire, and the debut in New York in 1890 is noted as sensational among society.
