Ireland Faces Widespread Famine and Starvation Threat
Leaders and sympathizers mobilize relief as famine grips western Ireland. Potato crop failure leaves 756,000 people in dire need, with harsh winters, empty pots, and rotting tubers. Priests and politicians appeal to Parliament and the public abroad, recalling 1847 and 1897 horrors while urging immediate government aid to stave off mass emigration and death.
