Favors School Bill Could Double District Enrollment
Emily Young O Brien of the Civic Center argues the compulsory education bill could add about 3 000 children to public schools with current buildings and another 1 500 diverted from private or parochial schools. She outlines two main approaches: raise average class size or expand half day sessions, noting many out of school children are from ages seven to fourteen and would enter gradually without costly new buildings.
