In Pittsburgh on February 3 Harry Ewalt of Hematead tried to save his three year old niece from a maddened family cat. The cat felled Ewalt, inflicting severe cuts to his face neck and arms before he finally overpowered the animal. The Maltese cat had long been the family pet and attacked the girl during the struggle. The assailant was aided by Ewalt who after a desperate fight managed to seize the cat by the neck and drag it away. He then struck the animal on the head to end the threat.
